Rankd – Introducing AudioActive
AudioActive's seafront cypher
Grassroots music has dispersed and thrived across Brighton’s plethora of small music venues, but there’s a quieter pocket of the industry where upcoming talent is being nurtured and mentored to greater heights – especially for the younger music community where opportunities can be limited, and barriers are prevalent. AudioActive have pioneered the youth music movement, through an ongoing series of free music sessions and projects to address key issues and catalyse social change. We’re delighted to have been invited to work with AudioActive to highlight their work within Brighton and beyond, kicking off with their upcoming event at The Fortune of War tomorrow evening with DJ Mak 10, alongside emerging and established acts to finalise their second rap cypher.
AudioActive’s ‘Kustom Vibes’ series offers an established platform for young talent to showcase their work, allowing them to develop their on-stage experience in an environment that enhances confidence, and facilitates growth.
Merging higher-profile acts with AudioActive’s growing catalogue of rising stars has boosted the series further – with their first rap cypher gaining recognition from the likes of global grime legends Skepta, Chip, and LinkUp TV. The ‘Crawley bandstand cypher’ was live streamed to 25,000+ viewers, and tomorrows follow-up is predicted to be a resounding success!
DJ MAK 10 has gained notoriety with his powerful rap improvisation, quickly establishing himself as a grassroots kingpin of the UK grime scene. Taking his seamless flows to eccentric locations, DJ MAK 10 is no stranger to doing things differently – and is the perfect addition to AudioActive’s next instalment of ‘Kustom Vibes’. We’re talking sets at an airport, dental practice, petrol station and a football stadium…
The line-up is bursting with must-see’s, including Mighty Moe (from @heartlesscrew), MAXWELL D, other industry legends and the next generation of talent boosted by the endless support of AudioActive. With high-risers Rizzle
Kicks, Rag’n’Bone Man, and rapper Arrdee having previously worked under the wing of AudioActive – the future’s looking bright for the award-winning not-for-profit.
Through events like this, AudioActive continue to champion those who are underrepresented or overlooked by traditional music services – a vital conversation that deserves more attention.
The Brighton seafront cypher takes place on the 6th February at The Fortune of War from 7pm. It’s free to attend with no sign up required!
