Windowhead x Rankd

Genre melding quartet Windowhead release new EP, “Terrestrials”
With the oversaturation and regurgitation of genres we’ve heard time and time again, it makes for a somewhat difficult attempt to find something truly unique. But Brighton based quartet Windowhead have captured something completely individual with their new EP, ‘Terrestrials’. There’s three more tracks that follow the lead single “Todd, Honey”, a melodic shoegaze, post hardcore track which was released at the end of February.
For me, the standout song is the second track “Cat Insulin”. The opening riff is reminiscent of the beloved upbeat skate rock of the 90s, and when the vocals kick in, the song moves into an amalgamation of emocore, melodic hardcore, post grunge and shoegaze.
The song moves flawlessly through all these different directions making the final product a genre defying anthem that could draw all sorts of crowds. Other highlights from the EP include the ending section of the final song, “I Had To Reach Out and Grab It Before it Disappeared Forever”. It’s a sensational, crashing end to the entire EP itself with riffs that call to modern emo core bands such as Loathe and Superheaven.
What Windowhead have done with this EP is significant in a time where the music scene has become extremely oversaturated with carbon copies of genres past. Windowhead’s sound pulls from all kinds of artists, genres, and blends them together to establish a signature sound. This is the way forward into creating something new, with still having those beloved elements from previous movements, and really establish Windowhead as a refreshing and exciting corner of the local music scene.
They will celebrate the release at the Bee’s Mouth alongside Dusker & Adur on April 6th – tickets can be found here.
‘Terrestrials’ releases on March 28th – and it’s a MUST for your local radar!
